Michael A. Wells was born in north central Missouri. He has spent most of his life in the Kansas City Area. He is married and lives with his wife Cathy in Independence, Missouri. They have four grown children.
Michael's poetry has been published in a number of print and online venues as well as in antholigies and has been a reader at various open mics in the metropolitan area for over 10 years.
He has been a member of the National Poetry Society as well as the Missouri State Poetry Society for a number of years and has served as the Vice President of a local chapter of of the society - K.C. Metro Verse.
In 2005 Michael was named the runner up or Silver Missouri Senior Poet Laureate for his contest entry in the National Senior Poet Laureate contest for the poem "Coming Out".

He maintains a pluralist view of the art believing such diversity supports the freest expressions. Without this, art becomes defined by the whims of a few in society and as such becomes static.
When Michael is not writing and reading poetry, he enjoys San Francisco Giants baseball, an occasional wine and music.
